  • Seagate Launch 10TB Consumer Drives July 19, 2016

    Today Seagate announced the launch of a range of 10TB drives aimed at high-end consumers along with NAS and remote surveillance products, collectively called the Guardian Series. Since 2013 Seagate have called their consumer products “Desktop HDD” but have now reintroduced the Barracuda name, although rebranded it to BarraCuda. The full range includes FireCuda, IronWolf and SkyHawk. Read more

  • IBM Improvements to PCM June 28, 2016

    For many years IBM has developing Phase-change Memory (PCM) a non-volatile method of storing data optically. Last month IBM announced that they have been able to extend the storage capability of the method from storing a single bit per cell, now allowing 3 bits to be stored, which will allow them to create cheaper and higher density devices.   • Seagate and Western Digital Discuss Future June 22, 2016

    In a recent news conference, Seagate and Western Digital both discussed their vision of future development. Western Digital are predicting a decline in sales volume and revenue across their range of hard disk drives. Seagate are forecasting that their revenue will however stay stable. Although hard disk drive sales for use in PC’s and mission critical system have declined, this is offset by their enterprise and specialised products.

  • Seagate 3TB GoFlex Problems June 14, 2016

    The problem associated with the Seagate ST3000DM001 3TB hard disk drive have been known for several years. Seagate were the first manufacturer to use platters each capable of storing 1TB of data in a drive. This high density however was a problem and soon became apparent in these drives when used in a desktop. These drives were however, also extensively used in the Seagate GoFlex range of external USB drives.
