Hardware Recovery
Hardware recovery is required when the storage media fails to physically function correctly. This could be because in the case of a hard drive the disk fails to initialise and does not appear in the bios and is therefore undetected or that the disk access has degraded and regular data read write errors are reported. The failure may be evident by the drive making unusual noises, clicking, grinding or knocking sounds.
There could be many reasons for the disk failure. The most common cause is physical damage across the disk surfaces resulting in bad sectors or data CRC(cyclic redundancy check) errors. Other causes that may prevent proper disk function and access to data are disk controller failure or motor failure and at worst case read write head failure which normally leads to a physical head crash requiring hardware disk recovery to restore data.
Backup tape media may also suffer physical damage and require hardware tape recovery. Normally due to faulty tape drives causing media flaws affecting the stored raw data or at worst case over tension due to faulty tape spools causing the tape to stretch or physically snap. Many of these physical damages will require hardware tape recovery to restore the tape media before preparation to access the stored raw data can be achieved.
Having serviced many different makes and models of tape drives and tape storage media we can restore physically damaged tapes to a working condition before our specialist machine process enables the raw data to be recovered. With our software recovery solutions we can bypass any associated data corruption allowing easy recovery of your backup data files.
Hardware Capabilities
Hardware recovery is required as a first step during our data recovery process. Once our data recovery specialist engineers have completely diagnosed the media and have isolated any hardware failures and overcome any hardware damages, the raw recovery of data allows the media image to be created onto our servers and the data files directly extracted from the image using our software recovery capabilities.
DiskEng hardware recovery capabilities are continuously improved, with the benefit of bespoke recovery solutions developed through our on-going disk engineering research and development program. If there is any data stored on the storage media, hard disk, tape, portable or removable media, we have a combination of hardware recovery solutions that can recover your data.
With component level engineering capabilities and the detailed knowledge of the inner workings of hard drives, our data recovery specialist engineers can diagnose any type of electronic failure, motor failure or read write head failure. We can completely disassemble the media to its individual components and rebuild it to a complete working state before restoring temporary functionality for the raw recovery of data files.
