“Thought our security software was uptodate but malware still managed to be installed, first noticed when Chrome behaved strangely. Office applications then started closing. Attempted some of the tips to removed the malware, but nothing worked only causing Windows to become corrupt. Many thanks to DiskEng for recovering the files. Top job.”

A 4TB Western Digital hard disk drive arrived at our laboratory in Oxford from Shrewsbury. The hard disk drive was examined by our hardware data recovery engineers revealing no physical issues. A sector-by-sector image of the disk was secured by our data recovery specialists encountering no unreadable bad sectors during the process.
When the image of the drive was analysed by our data recovery specialists they found it to contain a single 4TB NTFS data volume which contained approximately 560GB of recoverable files. The recoverable files consisted of the operating system, program files, photos, promotional videos and a large number of assorted office documents. During a scan of the file system a number of file system metadata entries were found to have been corrupted, either by the malware, or during the attempt to remove it. The recovered data was written to an external USB drive on which the data was returned to the customer.
